In most traditional ghost stories, hauntings take place in a single location. Poltergeists have been known to follow the living from one location to the next, but are largely considered an anomaly.
But what if a spirit—or rather, a group of ghosts—were able to travel the world, at will? Where would they go, and what would they do? What danger might they pose to the living?
SPECTRAL WIND addresses these questions in a tale of supernatural drama and personal betrayal. Tonally, the film hearkens to elevated horror offerings such as HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR, and THE WITCH.
Jax, an ambitious parapsychologist, is chasing a supernatural phenomenon called the “spectral wind”—a group of wayward ghosts that travel the Earth’s magnetic lines. He wants to prove the existence of the spectral wind, and he wants his wife, Cassie, a psychic, to make contact with the ghosts.
There’s just one problem; Cassie suffered a miscarriage as a result of what she believes was a psychic attack by a spirit, so she’s quit the ghosthunting business altogether. Jax must resort to unusual means to get Cassie to help him. He tricks her into accompanying him on a camping trip, but leaves out one small detail; the location of their camp is right in the path of the spectral wind.
Cassie is alerted to the spectral wind’s presence when she encounters the spirit of a young girl who is being chased by the ghosts. Cassie confronts Jax about his duplicity, but before either of them can escape, the spectral wind hits them full force, with disastrous results.
SPECTRAL WIND has received multiple nominations and won an award for Best Paranormal Film at the Krampus Kon Film Festival.
Using the short film as proof of concept…essentially, a prequel…a feature-length version is being developed by SPECTRAL WIND writer/co-director Luke Van Garza and producer-director Jeff Kerr (WRITER’S BLOCK, THE LAST OF THE MOONLIGHT TOWERS).
In this sequel, a female FBI agent investigating a string of mysterious, grisly murders (committed by the spectral wind) notices a lone figure on the fringes of each crime scene: Jax. The agent tracks Jax down and questions him, but balks at his crazy story about how marauding ghosts killed his wife. As the number of deaths snowball, however, the agent decides to take Jax’s claims seriously and team up with him in an effort to destroy the paranormal menace once and for all.
